Spoon River College is offering an opportunity for locals to build practical digital skills without breaking the bank. A one-day introductory course on Microsoft Excel will be held on June 11, providing participants with the tools to better manage their data—whether for personal, academic, or professional use.

The class, “Intro to Excel,” is designed for beginners and requires no prior experience. It will cover the basics of spreadsheet creation, chart development, and list management, aiming to help attendees become comfortable using one of the most widely utilized software programs in the workplace today.

The course will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the college’s Canton Campus in the PC Lab. Instructor Andrea Barbknecht will lead the session, guiding participants through Excel’s core functions in a hands-on, user-friendly format.

Offered at a significantly reduced cost of $19, the program is made possible through funding from the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) Noncredit Workforce Training Grant. The grant aims to expand workforce readiness by supporting affordable noncredit educational opportunities across the state.

The class is open to anyone interested in gaining foundational digital skills. Organizers emphasize the course’s accessibility by stating no prior experience or knowledge is needed- just a willingness to learn!

With Excel being a staple in budgeting, scheduling, and data organization tasks, the course is expected to appeal to a broad range of learners—from those seeking to enhance their workplace capabilities to individuals pursuing better personal organization.

Intro to Excel will be held on Wednesday, June 11, from 12:30p.m. to 3:30p.m. in the PC Lab at Spoon River College’s Canton Campus. The class will be taught by Andrea Barbknecht and is offered at a cost of $19, thanks to the ICCB Noncredit Workforce Training Grant.
