WIU Football Shatters Losing Streak and Finds New Momentum

Whether you know them as the purple and gold, your alma mater, or think of Rocky the Bulldog, WIU has a special place in Forgottonia's heart. Until recently, this commonly known underdog has struggled to prove itself on the gridiron. WIU Football has finally shattered its losing streak, breaking free from a 27-game skid that weighed heavily on the team.
The Leathernecks held the title of the longest losing streak in Division I football, with 27 lost games under their name since the early 2021-2022 season. But, after a curse-ending win against McKendree on September 28th, a shimmer of hope is shining for WIU fans. The score was 49-32, with the Leathernecks in the lead. Running back Cameren Smith did what needed to be done for this team and took charge with his 199 rushing yards. It was a monumental moment for the team, with 273 yards total.
Head football coach Joe Davis, decided one win just wasn't enough. The team placed more wins in the last month than they have in the past three seasons. Following their McKendree win, The Leathernecks went on to win against The Charleston Southern Buccaneers and The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. The Leathernecks are continuing to fight and put their name back on the map. The team has multiple rival games coming up, including Eastern IL on November 2nd and Tennessee State on November 9th.
