Macomb Announces New Grant Program to Revitalize Downtown Area

By: Forgottonia Times™ Report

The City of Macomb has launched a project to revitalize its historic downtown area through the Downtown Facade Grant Program. This initiative aims to rejuvenate commercial buildings within the Historic Courthouse Square District, fostering economic growth and preserving the city's architectural heritage.

The Downtown Facade Grant Program, funded by Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District Funds, offers property and business owners significant financial assistance. Eligible applicants can receive grants covering up to two-thirds of their facade improvement costs, with a maximum grant amount of $20,000 per project. This program enhances the visual appeal of the downtown area and aims to attract more visitors and customers, thereby boosting the local economy.

To qualify for the program, properties must be located within the Historic Courthouse Square District. The types of improvements covered include exterior painting and cleaning, window and door replacements, and adding awnings and canopies.

Applicants are required to submit a detailed proposal including project plans, two or more contractor bids, and photographs of the existing facade. They must also be willing to pay the total cost not covered by the grant assistance. The application deadline for this current cycle is August 7th, 2024.

These improvements will beautify the downtown area and create a ripple effect, encouraging more visitors to the improved storefronts and inspiring neighboring property owners to invest in their buildings as well. The revitalized buildings will also help preserve Macomb's historic charm. By investing in the beautification and maintenance of the Historic Courthouse Square District, the City of Macomb is ensuring that its downtown remains a vibrant and attractive destination for residents and visitors alike.
