By: Forgottonia Times™ Report

Downtown Macomb was alive with the sounds of dribbling basketballs and cheering spectators on Saturday, August 10th, as the 2nd Annual 3-on-3 No Take Backs Tournament took over the streets outside Sports Corner Bar. The event brought together young athletes from across the region for a day of spirited competition and community camaraderie.

The creation of Nick Knowles, CEO of the YMCA of McDonough County, and Johnnie McKee, co-founder of Sports Corner, the tournament was conceived as a way to bring a new kind of basketball excitement to Macomb. With beautiful weather for the day and loads of spectators to cheer on their teams, players were out enjoying the sunshine, staying active, and competing with friends.

This year's tournament saw participation grow significantly, with over 36 teams registering to compete across various age divisions. Teams were divided into boys' and girls' divisions, with players ranging from 1st grade to high school. Each team, limited to a maximum of five players, took turns with three players on the court at a time, showcasing their skills in fast-paced, half-court action.

The tournament drew young athletes from across the region, including Carthage, Stronghurst, Canton, and Bushnell. Throughout the day, the streets buzzed with excitement as teams battled for bragging rights and the coveted championship titles in their respective divisions. Spectators, including proud parents, friends, and local residents, lined the sidewalks to catch the action, creating an upbeat atmosphere that spilled over into the nearby businesses.

As the tournament wrapped up, it was clear that the 3-on-3 No Take Backs Tournament is well on its way to becoming a cherished tradition in Macomb. With its success apparent, Knowles and McKee are already looking ahead to next year's event, eager to see even more teams take to the streets for a day of basketball.
