The Weatherization department at WIRC-Community Action Agency (WIRC) in Macomb received two awards of excellence at a recent state-wide conference. The first award recognized that the department placed 3rd out of 30 other weatherization departments across Illinois for excellence in completing projects and spending their budget. Tim Manock, Weatherization Coordinator at WIRC, personally received the second award of Excellence in Leadership.

Weatherization is a social service program that helps income-eligible homeowners with making their homes safer and more energy efficient by eliminating heat loss and air infiltration areas in the home. Examples of improvements include sealing cracks, insulating attics, repairing windows and doors, or other similar projects.

WIRC’s five-person weatherization team received the two awards from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) in June 2024.

This is not the first time that WIRC’s Weatherization Team has been recognized at the state level. In August 2023, they received an Exceptional Performance Award from DCEO. That award was given for their outstanding accomplishments in serving communities in Hancock, Henderson, Fulton, Knox, McDonough and Warren counties. Manock wants to acknowledge that he and his team members are thankful for the partnerships they have with local contractors to be able to help as many eligible homeowners as possible each year.

Funding for the Home Weatherization program at WIRC is provided through a grant by the Illinois DCEO.

WIRC-Community Action Agency is a nonprofit that helps people and communities in multiple western Illinois counties. The Agency is one of over 1,000 community action agencies across the United States working to end poverty.
