Known as "The Jewel of Galesburg," The Orpheum Theatre is evolving under Executive Director Andrew Driscoll. Since his appointment in May 2024, Driscoll has focused on expanding the theatre's programming and community involvement.
The Theatre's Board of Directors crafted a strategic plan to bring "more" to the Orpheum Theatre. "What The Orpheum has done with the '24-'25 season, and what we plan to do with our next season, is bring in more of everything," Driscoll explained. This translates to more frequent and diverse performances, stronger partnerships, and increased opportunities for local groups to use the venue for speaker panels, concerts, fundraisers, and film screenings.
After a packed month of events in March, April also brings a full schedule of new performances! April 5th brings "The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci," presented by the Galesburg Community Chorus. Scottish band Skerryvore will take the stage on April 9th, blending "epic melodies and contemporary Scottish music," brought to you by the Orpheum's partnership with Cultural Crossroads Connections. Families can look forward to "Animaniacs in Concert" on April 12th, featuring music from the beloved cartoon, accompanied by the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, as well as ventriloquist and comedian Taylor Mason will perform on April 25th; Music enthusiasts can enjoy "Turn to Stone," a tribute to the Electric Light Orchestra on May 8th, and "Commotion – A Tribute to the Music of Creedence Clearwater Revival" on May 24th.
Community support is vital to the theatre's success. Driscoll emphasizes that attendance is crucial. "The higher the attendance, the more the experience is enhanced for everyone there; there is truly nothing like attending a packed performance!" he noted. Additionally, donations, sponsorships, and volunteer efforts are essential to maintain the historic venue and keep ticket prices accessible. The City of Galesburg's support over the past two decades has also been instrumental in the theatre's longevity.
Located at 57 South Kellogg Street in Galesburg, the Orpheum Theatre is poised to continue its legacy as a cultural cornerstone, inviting all to partake in its rich array of performances and community events.
