Colorful Tribute to Courage: Color Run to Honor Riley Thomas and Support St. Jude’s

By: Forgottonia Times™ Report

On August 26, the American Legion in Monmouth, Illinois, will host the 8th annual RileyStrong Color Run. This event honors the memory of Riley Thomas, a brave young girl who passed away only nine days after her 12th birthday following a nearly nine-month battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.

The Color Run, which includes a 5K and a Kids Run, is more than just a race; it is a tribute to Riley’s short but impactful life. All proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a world-renowned facility leading the way in pediatric cancer research and treatment. St. Jude’s groundbreaking work has significantly improved survival rates, increasing them from 20% to 80% since the hospital’s founding in 1962. The hospital’s mission is to ensure that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food, allowing them to focus entirely on their child’s recovery.

The RileyStrong Color Run invites participants of all ages and fitness levels. While the event features a colorful 5K course with stations that douse runners in bright powders, those who wish not to run can participate in other ways. Donations are warmly and gratefully welcomed, whether participants choose to run, walk, or simply support the cause from the sidelines. Children are also welcome to join in the Kids Run and will receive an award upon completion of their run.

Registration is now open, and interested individuals can sign up through runsignup.com or simply by searching for the RileyStrong Color Run. The event promises a festive atmosphere with vibrant colors, community spirit, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

Join on August 26th to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and celebrate Riley’s memory by contributing to a future where no family has to endure the pain of losing a child to cancer.
