The Farmington Area Public Library District celebrated the 10th anniversary of its current building last Saturday with a community gathering filled with speakers, music, and family-friendly activities. Former director Barbara Love, who was instrumental in the building’s construction, opened the event with remarks on the library’s growth and importance as a local resource. John Howard, who led the library from 2016 to 2018, also shared reflections on his time there, while current director Rebecca Seaborn expressed gratitude for the community’s ongoing support and outlined future plans for the library.
The event showcased the library’s evolving role, with live music from harpist Pam Winterroth and fun activities like caricature drawing by Joe the Art Guy. Children’s librarian Christine Casteel kept young attendees entertained with balloon twisting, while library staff demonstrated popular services, including 3D printing. Attendees also enjoyed snacks and the chance to win special prizes.
The library, with a history dating back to 1901, continues to serve as a vital resource for Farmington and its neighbors. As it looks to the future, programs like the U.S. Flag Honors Program keep it firmly rooted in its mission to support community, learning, and literacy for generations to come.
