Pegasus Manufacturing Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Groundbreaking Technology
By: Forgottonia Times™ Report
Pegasus Manufacturing, a Galesburg-based company, marked its 10th anniversary this month by unveiling a revolutionary technology known as wire laser metal deposition. This cutting-edge innovation, developed through the expertise of Pegasus and its sister company, Jupiter CNC, is transforming industries such as medical manufacturing.
Ray Whitehead, CEO of both Pegasus and Jupiter, emphasized the significant impact of their dual-metal printing process. The new technology allows the combination of materials like titanium and copper in a single part, which is particularly beneficial for medical implants. The addition of copper is a game-changer, as it reduces the risk of staph infection by 87%. This breakthrough, Whitehead explained, was previously unattainable in manufacturing.
The company's latest achievement highlights its ongoing focus on precision and quality. The Jupiter CNC machines, including the VMX series, are renowned for their exceptional volumetric accuracy. Each machine is ballbar tested to achieve a circularity of .008mm (.0003") or better across all three planes, ensuring the highest standards of precision in every part produced. For comparison, .0003" is about 166 times smaller than the width of a human hair.
Pegasus Manufacturing's success has been built on its strong community ties. Whitehead opened the company in 2014 with just three employees, and since then, it has grown into a key player in global manufacturing. The company has become a driving force in revitalizing vocational technology education, offering internship programs, and supporting high school training initiatives. Whitehead highlighted that what began with a few students now trains 270 high schoolers across seven area schools.
With 40 full-time employees and two facilities in Galesburg, Pegasus and Jupiter are experiencing significant growth. Whitehead's focus on innovation, education, and community involvement continues to fuel the company's success, ensuring that Pegasus and Jupiter remain at the forefront of the manufacturing industry.
