The hum of conversation and the steady shuffle of boots filled Western Hall on February 8 and 9 as Western Illinois University hosted its 53rd Annual Ag Mech Farm Expo, the largest student-run agricultural event in the country. The two-day exhibition, free and open to the public, drew a diverse mix of vendors, exhibitors, and attendees from across the region, highlighting the latest in farm equipment, ag technology, and rural lifestyle products.
Upon entering, visitors were greeted by local FFA members offering pamphlets detailing the vast array of vendors spread throughout the venue. Displays ranged from towering farm tractors and precision field drones to booths selling homemade baked goods, beef jerky, and even nail products. The event blended agriculture's technological advancements with the craftsmanship of small-town entrepreneurs, creating an atmosphere that catered to farmers, families, and hobbyists alike.
Among the many exhibitors were Drone Deploy Crop App, Arrowhead Land Company, Forgottonia Crafts and Candy, Halo Solar LLC, the Illinois FFA Alumni Association, JB&D Siding and Window Co, Martin Tractor Inc, the McDonough County Farm Bureau, Perfect Lawn Equipment, Teresa's She Sheds, and so much more!
The expo's upstairs section featured a collection of fun opportunities for children. Families found entertainment in free activities, including a bouncy house, face painting, and glitter tattoos, ensuring a welcoming environment for all ages.
As exhibitors packed up and attendees departed, the success of this year's expo was evident in the lively discussions and exchanged business cards—a testament to agriculture's ever-evolving landscape and the enduring role of community events in fostering its progress.
