Hope on South Pearl Street
By: Forgottonia Times™ Report
A small brick building on South Pearl Street is about to become a place of big impact. The Lighthouse, a new Christ-centered outreach center, will officially open on Monday, April 28, at 239 S. Pearl Street, offering support to individuals in Galesburg who are struggling with homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, or simply in need of a safe, welcoming space.
Founded by longtime local ministry leaders Dale and Connie Jacobs, The Lighthouse will provide practical assistance—such as food, limited clothing, job coaching, and referrals to area shelters—as well as emotional and spiritual support for those seeking it.
“Everyone has a story,” Connie Jacobs said, but “many have never had anyone choose to listen. So, in the casual atmosphere of a tiny old church, … there will be loving people to listen to your story.”
While the mission is rooted in Christian faith, The Lighthouse is designed to be approachable and inclusive for all. Prayer and spiritual guidance are offered when requested, but the heart of the work is meeting people where they are, without judgment. Volunteers will be on-site during posted evening hours, with a flashing “OPEN” sign in the window when services are available.
Before its official opening, the public is invited to an Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can meet the volunteer team, walk through the space, enjoy refreshments, and learn more about how to support or get involved. Freewill donations will be accepted.
To help fund its efforts, The Lighthouse will also host a Giant Indoor Sale on Friday and Saturday, April 4–5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will feature furniture, books, toys, Christian educational materials, and more—especially useful for parents, teachers, and Sunday School leaders.
Donations to support The Lighthouse can be made online at graceway.church.trac.com/give or mailed to 239 S. Pearl Street, Galesburg, IL 61401.
In a city where many can feel lost in the chaos of life, The Lighthouse aims to be a steady light—offering rest, resources, and real connection, one life at a time.
